The modern rhythm of life does not allow most people to manage their health with due attention. Fast food and synthetic food additives lead to stomach and digestive problems. A huge number of people suffer from gastritis.
Pharmaceutical companies offer a wide range of medications, but if a proper diet for gastritis is not followed, this unpleasant disease will not go away.
Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of the stomach. It occurs for a variety of reasons:
- eating disorders, especially the habit of eating dry food, excessive love of spicy foods, "hungry" diets;
- presence of low quality products in the diet;
- bad habits;
- stress;
- long-term use of certain drugs;
- Presence of Helicobacter pylori bacteria in the stomach.
Gastritis is quite clear - heartburn, abdominal pain and difficulty, nausea, vomiting, stool disorders. It is difficult to get rid of the disease, an integrated approach is needed. A proper diet for gastritis is essential for recovery. The choice of diet depends on the type of disease. Distinguishing gastritis:
- is erosive;
- atrophic;
- with an increase or decrease in stomach acidity;
- in acute and chronic form.
Diet for acute gastritis
In this disease, the mucous membranes of the stomach are inflamed, so it is recommended to fast. Ideally, you should completely abstain from eating and drinking on the first day, relaxing your digestive system. Always drink hot water.
Contraindicated in cold and hot exacerbations.
The diet should then gradually include a weak broth, oatmeal or rice cereal-based decoctions. As a drink, it is better to offer the patient weak tea, decoctions with rosehips and chamomile.
The diet for acute gastritis can be extended in a few days.
Recommended food:
- viscous soups;
- milk rice, semolina, oatmeal;
- steam omelette;
- soft-boiled egg;
- low-fat or skim milk;
- cottage cheese souffle;
- from drinks: unsaturated compotes and jellies, weak tea with lemon or honey.
After the symptoms of gastritis have disappeared, you can gradually return to your normal diet. There are a number of products that are not suitable for people prone to inflammation of the gastric mucosa, even outside the period of exacerbation. Gastritis is an insidious disease that can come back at any time.
During remission, spicy, fatty and fried foods, fresh fruits and vegetables, carbonated drinks, alcohol, coffee should be strictly limited or eliminated altogether.
Chicory is comparable to coffee in its effect on mucous membranes, it is better to refrain from it. Such a diet further reduces the risk of new seizures after suffering from acute gastritis.
Listen!Milky or oatmeal on the water is a healthy breakfast food, but avoid instant or uncooked cereals, they are not as useful and contain additives harmful to a weakened stomach. During periods of disease exacerbation, it is better to wipe your porridge additionally.
Diet for chronic gastritis
A diet for chronic gastritis allows you to eat:
- milk porridge, well cooked and sparse in texture;
- puree or pureed vegetable soup;
- soft-boiled egg;
- steam omelette;
- dairy products and non-acid curd;
- Well-cooked meat or fish.
What sweets can you eat for chronic gastritis? The use of sugar, marshmallows, honey, various jams and marmalades, certain types of dried fruit (preferably non-acidic, pre-steamed) is permitted.
It is better to use pasta or boiled rice as a side dish. White bread is allowed, but not fresh, but dried or outdated.
Recommended drinks include milky tea with milk, carbonated mineral water, fruit and milk jelly.
Traditional Medicine:Freshly squeezed potato juice helps with gastritis. Drink on an empty stomach half an hour before breakfast outside the period of aggravation of the disease. It is better to use young vegetables that have not accumulated harmful substances.
The list of foods caused by gastritis is quite extensive. Foods that contribute to the abundance of gastric juice are strictly prohibited, namely:
- fish and meat cooked in its own juice and rich broths;
- sauces, preserves, pickled or pickled vegetables;

These include whole wheat bread, cakes, whole grains, mushrooms, nuts, bird or fish skins, fresh fruits and vegetables. Inflamed mucous membranes only accept cooked pasty foods as well as food products and pureed foods that have undergone careful mechanical processing during the period of disease exacerbation.
Important!In addition to the period of exacerbation of gastritis, fresh carrot juice is useful. The composition of carrots strengthens the wall of the gastric mucosa. and helps regulate metabolic processes. The patient should drink 10 hours at breakfast with half a glass for 10 days and then take a break. But it should only be taken after seeing a doctor, as carrot juice treatment is not suitable for patients with high acidity.
Diet for High Acid Gastritis
In such a diagnosis, the diet should aim to neutralize the high acid content, ie to reduce the concentration of hydrochloric acid in the stomach.
To do this, the patient menu includes:
- soups in weak, non-concentrated broth;
- cooked meat of dietary varieties (e. g. rabbit or turkey, chicken breast);
- cooked river fish and seafood;

The diet of such a patient is limited by sugary drinks with gas, fatty and fried foods, fresh or bran bread, any legumes (including pea and bean soups), hard cheese, fatty fish, chocolate, and sweets.
Listen!Patients with low stomach acid are most affected by Helicobacter pylori. In such an environment, bacterial waste products minimize acidity levels.

Diet for atrophic gastritis
Atrophic gastritis is characterized by insufficient amounts of digestive enzymes. Incoming food does not decompose completely and is not absorbed. For a list of what to eat for this type of gastritis:
- dietary meat and low-fat cooked fish;

- first breakfast,
- Lunch,
- Lunch,
- Afternoon tea,
- dinner.
- Eat small portions of about 300 grams per meal. Avoid overeating and have breakfast at set times. Your doctor will advise you! Do not try to eat liquid and solid foods at the same time, differentiate them.
- Avoid temperature peaks during meals - an irritated stomach will only accept food comfortably when it is warm.
- Simplify the menu. The fewer daily meals in the diet, the easier it is to cope with stomach stress.
- You should rest for 20 minutes after each meal, with minimal physical activity. The diet should include all important vitamins and minerals as well as a balanced amount of protein, fat and carbohydrates. Eat baked sweet fruits, compotes, jellies and juices every day according to the list of allowed foods.
- During the period of exacerbation, the diet should include fairly easily digestible protein, drink at least a glass of milk.
- Do not drink water! Drink 15-20 minutes after eating. Otherwise, enzymes that are already malfunctioning and gastric juice are diluted with water.
- Foods consumed for gastritis should not irritate the stomach, so mucous cereals, pureed foods and soups should be eaten every day. Foods should be adjusted as closely as possible to the patient’s stomach, so if it is not liquid enough or can be wiped out, mechanical processing should be done during the meal, i. e. , the pieces should be chewed thoroughly.
- Rice soup and porridge are not only the right type of food for gastritis, but also an effective way to get nutrients and remove toxins. Great choice for breakfast.Important!In order to feed patients with gastritis, it is better to soak the rice in water before cooking.
Gastritis is difficult to treat. Only complex therapy, including taking medications prescribed by a doctor and strict adherence to a carefully chosen diet, will allow you to get rid of unpleasant symptoms and prevent the consequences of gastritis such as gastric ulcer.
